The Entrepreneurship Academy

July 27, 2008 - August 1, 2008

Program Mission
The Purdue Research Park Entrepreneurship Academy will provide innovative math, science and technology-based business and life skills to empower young people with unique entrepreneurial-based opportunities and real-world experiences.

Program Overview
The Entrepreneurship Academy recognizes incoming high school juniors and seniors living within the State of Indiana, who have demonstrated dedication and innovation in the areas of math, science and technology education. Nominated students, who are chosen to participate in the program, will attend a five-day, intensive program at Purdue University’s main campus in West Lafayette.

Led by Purdue Research Foundation staff, university faculty, industry leaders, business experts and successful, high-tech business entrepreneurs, the academy will help program participants identify a viable business idea and test its feasibility; determine the best way for the business to compete; identify capital needs to start the business; and devise a plan for managing the business successfully.

Working in “start-up” teams of five, participants will be provided with case studies, instruction and necessary materials to assist them in the successful completion of the program. On the final day of the academy, these teams will present their executive summary and a two-minute “elevator pitch” to a group of local investors. Tuition vouchers will be given to team members whose presentations show the most promise for business success.

Entrepreneurial Experiences
Entrepreneurs representing a variety of technology-related backgrounds, expertise and products will mentor “start-up” teams throughout the week. Guest presenters will share their stories of success and lessons learned.  As part of the program, students will tour Purdue Research Park, where more than 90 high-tech companies operate, to observe entrepreneurs in action and meet company executives.
